I grew up working on a small hog, dairy and grain farm near the Red River Valley in northwestern Minnesota. We didn't use chemicals, we ground our own feed and our animals were pasture raised.

Selling crop insurance in my hometown gave me exposure to many crops -- Summer was much shorter so farmers had to stay adaptable. In northern areas, it's not unusual for a farmer to have 10 to 12 crops on their policy which is why organics is a natural fit for me. I can navigate the regulations and request coverage for both organic and conventional crops that aren't insurable in your area.
